What does good marketing look like?

Updated: Jul 17, 2024

The absolute majority of advertising is boring, cliche or just dead wrong. In this article I’m going to show you how to get the attention of prospects, generate more leads and finally force your advertising to do what it’s supposed to do; get new clients.

Don’t confuse your customers.

When writing any-form of advertising it’s essential that you know who your target audience is. You need to know who your selling too.

More importantly how are you going to reach them? Meta ads? Emails? Tiktok?

Once you know how your going to reach them you can start to craft a compelling message tailored to your desired target audience.

“Word salad” doesn’t sell.

You want your marketing to be clear, concise and too the point. Don’t waffle, don’t be boring. People’s attention spans these days aren’t long enough for that.

You want your message to cut through the clutter and be interesting. You can’t mash a bunch of generic phrases together like “we’re the cheapest in x town” or “we offer 40% off new customers”.

This doesn’t do anything, it just implies your cheap and being cheap is not what you want your business branded as.

Cutting through the clutter.

Your messaging needs to be geared towards what excites your target audience. You must give an exact reason why your audience shouldn't buy from anyone else.

It’s up to you to find your unique selling proposition (USP) to stand out from other businesses in your industry.

While everyone can eat food at a restaurant, advertising to 3 year olds who have no way of paying for the food is bad idea. You have to aim your message to the most responsive audience.

If your selling a blowtorch, you’re probably going to be selling to men, so tailor your message towards them. If a woman wants to buy a blowtorch, that’s no issue, you’ll  sell to anyone who wants to buy.

What’s the best way to reach your target audience?

We live in the wonderful age of social media, with multiple different platforms you can advertise on.

Different social media platforms have different audiences, look at who you want to target, and ask yourself, where might I find them.

All social media platforms have a way you can pay for advertising. And for 94% of businesses this is the best option.
